N SCALE KITS-

In the early/mid 1970's, Western Railcraft offered a 700 series coach and an MD car.

I believe the MD car was the center door version, not positive. Both cars

were craftsman type kits, with a combination of etched brass and wood parts.

They were  designed to fit over diesel mechanisms commonly available.

Thanks Phil Walters for the above info!

Both Ken Kidder in the early 60's, and more recently Current Line Models have

offered single door Birney streetcars for use in city service.

MISC. INFO

In the late 60's, William Clouser released a total of 4 different resin cast car bodies. These are still considered to be state of the art, as they have fine scale details as well as interior details cast into the one piece bodies. He offered the 250 series combine, one of the diners, and two coaches ( I think 150 and 700 series) Upon Clouser's death, Eric Bronsky bought the molds and rights to produce these cars, and he did some for some years until the molds were no longer useable.

Also in the late 60's Locomotive Workshop offered a brass Electroliner. These were rough etched body shells, with a cast white metal front "nose" on each of the "A" cars.

Finally, Ashland Car Works has offered both of the MD cars in kit form, as well as the refrigerated reefers. The MD cars were even offered in a special run once with pre-painted sides for the "Buy War Bonds" scheme.

Lastly, several years back a company called Fox Valley Model Works offered both MD cars, as well as a Birney streetcar in G scale, all cast in urethane resin. I beleive these may still be available, rumor has it that the company (after a several year layoff) is contemplating a return to the business with North Shore coaches in G scale on the horizon.

Thanks again to Phil Walters for his information!
